A few days before the conclusion of his contract with the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, Rigobert Song is heading to court. Stirring controversy since the conclusion of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the 47-year-old coach seeks to put an end to the debate surrounding his coaching diploma. He has chosen legal action against two individuals who have become co-defendants in the unfolding legal drama.

Cameroon remains in the spotlight with ongoing football-related issues. Amidst the controversies involving the president of FECAFOOT, Samuel Eto’o, and questions surrounding Coach Song’s qualifications, the Cameroonian national team faces challenging times.

President Paul Biya recently stepped in, urging an end to the ongoing disputes.

Taking Legal Action Amid Tense Atmosphere

In this charged environment, Rigobert Song, facing the likelihood of not securing a renewed contract from March, has decided to address the situation forcefully.

Since the conclusion of AFCON 2023, there has been a clamor for clarity regarding the coaching qualifications of the Cameroonian coach. Media outlets have been abuzz with discussions, with recent heated debates on a local television channel.

The controversy intensified when an alleged coaching diploma, supposedly belonging to Rigobert Song from the Tahitian Football Federation, surfaced on a local program.

Strikingly, the certificate was titled “Federal Football Certificate (CFF1) (U9-U11).” Outraged by these revelations and accusations, Rigobert Song, through his legal representative, has announced legal proceedings against two participants in the program,

Pinon Omgba and Awana Théophile, citing disturbance to peace, tranquility, and personal reputation.

As the legal battle unfolds, it adds another layer of complexity to the challenges facing Cameroonian football, leaving the football community eagerly awaiting a resolution to the controversies surrounding the coaching qualifications of Rigobert Song.
