Club Africain president Heikel Dkhil has reversed his decision to resign, following intense criticism after the team’s recent defeat to Espérance.
The reversal comes amid efforts from club officials and stakeholders to stabilize the club’s leadership during a challenging period.
According to Tunisian radio station Diwan, members of the club’s board visited Dkhil at his residence, accompanied by American investor Virgil Chambers.
During the meeting, Chambers reiterated his commitment to a comprehensive sports project aimed at revitalizing Club Africain over several years, in collaboration with Dkhil.
Chambers emphasised that his continued involvement is contingent upon Dkhil’s leadership, stating that he would also withdraw from the project if Dkhil were to step down.
He expressed concern over the ongoing criticism directed at the club president, suggesting that such pressure could jeopardise the club’s future plans.
Club Africain has recently slipped to fourth place in the Tunisian Ligue 1 standings, accumulating 53 points.
The team’s performance has sparked dissatisfaction among supporters and increased scrutiny of the club’s management.
Dkhil’s decision to remain at the helm is seen as a move to maintain continuity and focus on long-term objectives, including the implementation of the proposed sports project.
