Tunisian side Club Africain have taken the decisive step of freezing Gaith Al-Saghir out of the squad for the remainder of the current season.
This comes after the young player reportedly refused to come on as a substitute in the club’s recent league clash against Étoile du Sahel.
The decision to sideline Al-Saghir was confirmed by Tunisian news outlet Nessma, which noted that the move was made at the request of the team’s French head coach, David Bettoni.
Club Africain faced a tough outing against Étoile du Sahel in their last league match, suffering a 2-0 defeat at the Hammadi Agrebi Stadium in Rades.
The loss proved costly, as it saw Africain slip to fourth place in the Tunisian league standings, effectively ending their hopes of qualifying for one of the CAF club competitions next season.
With just one round of matches left, they remain on 53 points, trailing the top three.
The decision to exclude Al-Saghir reflects a firm stance from Bettoni, who appears keen to maintain discipline and focus within the squad as the season draws to a close.
This disciplinary measure underlines the importance of maintaining professionalism and commitment, especially in critical stages of the campaign.
As Africain prepare for their final match of the season, the club will have to regroup quickly if they hope to end the campaign on a positive note, despite their fading continental ambitions.
