Club Africain are facing the possibility of playing their next match without fans after crowd trouble marred their 3-1 derby defeat to Espérance in the Tunisian top flight on Sunday.
The highly anticipated clash, held at Hammadi Agrebi Stadium, saw Portuguese referee Luís Godinho file an official report condemning the behaviour of Club Africain’s supporters.
According to Radio Diwan, Godinho’s report highlighted incidents in which objects were thrown onto the pitch by sections of the home crowd.
The disturbances reportedly followed Espérance’s second goal and continued after the visitors netted their third, prompting serious concerns over crowd control and safety.
These actions could now trigger disciplinary sanctions against Club Africain under domestic league regulations.
The Tunisian Football Federation is expected to consider the referee’s report in the coming days and decide on possible punishments.
A stadium ban for fans is among the measures being discussed, which would impact Club Africain’s upcoming Tunisian Cup fixture against Hilal M’saken on April 26.
The match, already significant in the club’s season, could now be played behind closed doors.
In addition to a potential fan suspension, Club Africain may also face a financial penalty.
The fine could amount to 7,000 Tunisian dinars, compounding the club’s disciplinary troubles.
Such sanctions would deal a further blow to the club, which is under pressure to maintain discipline amid a challenging campaign.
The incidents have drawn concern from football authorities and may spark renewed calls for stricter enforcement of stadium regulations across Tunisian football.
With only a few fixtures remaining this season, Club Africain will now await the federation’s ruling, which could significantly impact both their competitive and financial outlook as they prepare for the domestic cup tie later this month.
