Cameroon’s Clinton N’Jie Signs New Deal with Lyon Through 2019
Cameroonian forward Clinton N’Jie has committed his future to Olympique Lyonnais, signing a three-year contract extension that will keep him at the Ligue 1 club until 2019.
The 21-year-old, considered one of the most exciting young talents in African football, joined Lyon in 2011 and made his professional debut under then-manager Rémi Garde in November 2012. Since then, he has featured in 18 matches across all competitions, registering his first goal during Lyon’s Europa League qualifier against Czech side Mladá Boleslav last August.
N’Jie’s rise has been especially notable on the international stage. The former Brasseries du Cameroun academy product has quickly become a key figure for the Indomitable Lions since receiving his first call-up to the national team for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
He scored on his debut in a 2-0 away win against the Democratic Republic of Congo, and followed that with a sensational brace just days later in a dominant 4-1 victory over Ivory Coast. His second goal in that match—a deft chest control followed by a powerful finish under the bar—highlighted his composure and technical ability. His burgeoning partnership with striker Vincent Aboubakar was particularly promising.
Though N’Jie has yet to secure a regular starting role at Lyon, his recent performances suggest a bright future both in Ligue 1 and for Cameroon. The club’s decision to secure him until 2019 underlines their belief in his potential.
As Lyon continues to rebuild and invest in youth, N’Jie’s development will be closely watched—not just in France, but across the African football landscape.
