Christophe Galtier, the coach of Saint-Etienne, responded strongly to an article on the Algerian site Le Buteur that accused him of racism. Galtier, during the presentation of Mevlut Erding, addressed the journalist directly, calling him “an idiot and incompetent.” The article in question was titled “Ghoulam or the real reasons for diplomatic sidelining” and discussed tensions between Galtier and Algerian international Faouzi Ghoulam. Ghoulam, who requested a transfer, was reinstated in the main squad after failing to secure a move during the transfer window. Galtier vehemently denied the racism accusation, stating that he has never been racist.
