Christian Gomis joins Tenerife on loan after Schalke title triumph

Senegalese-Spanish centre-forward Christian Gomis has joined CD Tenerife from FC Schalke 04 on a season-long loan, arriving in Spain’s LaLiga2 after helping the German club win the second-tier title last season.

The 26-year-old’s move was completed on 1 September, with the loan running until 30 June 2027. Gomis will return to Schalke at the end of the arrangement, linking up with Tenerife after a year in German football.

Gomis joined Schalke from Swiss club FC Winterthur in September 2025 in a €1.5m transfer. His arrival followed a spell at Winterthur, where he had moved from fellow Swiss side Stade Nyonnais in July 2024.

The striker has now made a further change of league and country as he continues his career in Spain. Tenerife’s new forward can operate as a centre-forward, is predominantly right-footed and stands 1.85m tall.

Gomis was born in Pikine and holds Senegalese and Spanish nationality. His earlier career included spells with Vevey United, Stade Nyonnais, FC Biel-Bienne and Chaux-de-Fonds before his move to Winterthur.

He joined Vevey United in 2020 after a period without a club, before moving to Stade Nyonnais on a free transfer in July 2022. His progression through Swiss football eventually led to the move to Winterthur and then Schalke.

At Schalke, Gomis was part of the squad that secured the German second-tier championship in the 2025-26 season. The switch to Tenerife gives him a move away from the club shortly after that success, while maintaining his link with Schalke beyond the current campaign.

Tenerife have added a forward with experience of football in Switzerland and Germany as they begin their work with Gomis in the Spanish second tier. His arrival also gives the club a player who has already experienced a title-winning season with Schalke.

The completed loan places Gomis at CD Tenerife until 30 June 2027, while his Schalke contract runs until the same date.
