Christian Atsu Named Vitesse Arnhem’s Player of the Season
Despite falling short of a UEFA Champions League berth, Vitesse Arnhem concluded their season on a high note by celebrating their standout performers — and Ghanaian winger Christian Atsu came out on top.
Voted “Player of the Season” by the Dutch club’s supporters, Atsu impressed with consistent displays throughout the campaign. On loan from Chelsea, the 22-year-old made 24 starts in 25 appearances and scored five goals, showcasing pace, creativity, and maturity on the wing.
This is not the first time Atsu has earned such recognition. While on loan at Portuguese side Rio Ave from FC Porto in 2012, he was also named Player of the Season — a testament to his growing reputation in European football.
Following the announcement, Atsu took to social media to express his gratitude: “Thanks to God, coaches, my teammates and all the fans of Vitesse that voted for me as the player of the season.”
As his loan spell draws to a close, the question now turns to Chelsea. Will the Premier League giants finally offer Atsu a place in their first team, or will he be sent out again in search of more top-flight experience? His performances in the Eredivisie have certainly strengthened his case.
