Chris Waddle urges Pogba to avoid Manchester United return, says Premier League does not suit him

Former England international Chris Waddle has urged Paul Pogba to dismiss any transfer links to Manchester United, arguing that English football does not suit his style of play.

Pogba, who was initially handed a four-year suspension after testing positive for doping, had his ban reduced to 18 months.

Now 32, the French midfielder of Guinean descent is without a club following his exit from Juventus, and speculation continues to grow about a possible return to Old Trafford.

However, Waddle believes a Premier League comeback would be a mistake for Pogba, as his previous stint with United did not meet expectations.

Speaking to 10bet, the former winger pointed out that the Frenchman thrived in slower-paced leagues, particularly in Italy.

“He’s never really shown his best in England, has he?” Waddle said. “When he first emerged, he looked promising, but it was in Italy where he truly made an impact.

“Their style of football suits him better—less intense, more tactical, and patient. The conditions also play a role, with the heat and slower tempo working to his advantage.”

Waddle suggested that Pogba would be better off returning to Serie A or moving to France, potentially joining a club like Marseille. “I think he fits well in the Italian league, and France could also be a good move for him,” he added.

Meanwhile, Man United manager Ruben Amorim is preparing for a squad overhaul this summer, with multiple players expected to depart.

The Portuguese side, operating under financial constraints, could see Pogba as an attractive option due to his talent and availability at a lower cost.
