Ahead of the highly anticipated 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Ghana’s Head Coach, Chris Hughton, has expressed optimism about the Black Stars’ chances, stating, “I will like to think Ghana can win the AFCON.” The announcement comes as Hughton reveals a comprehensive 55-man provisional squad for the upcoming tournament in Ivory Coast.
The former Newcastle United boss submitted the extensive list to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in preparation for the prestigious competition scheduled to unfold in Ivory Coast.
Notable returnees to the squad include experienced players Bernard Tekpetey, John Antwi, and Benjamin Tetteh, adding depth and seasoned skill to the team.
Furthermore, the squad features the inclusion of eleven talented local players, with Medeama Sporting Club prominently represented.
Ghana, with aspirations of ending a 41-year trophy drought, is placed in Group B alongside formidable opponents Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique.
The Black Stars embark on their journey with a clash against Cape Verde at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on January 14, 2024. Subsequent challenges include facing Egypt at the same venue four days later and engaging Mozambique at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium on January 22, 2024.
The AFCON spectacle is scheduled to kick off on January 13 and conclude on February 11, promising an exhilarating tournament that fans worldwide eagerly anticipate.
