Chiefs and Sundowns progress, Pirates stunned by Magesi in Carling Knockout Drama

SuperSport United V Kaizer Chiefs 580

Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns advanced with commanding performances in South Africa’s Carling Knockout, while Orlando Pirates faced a stunning first-round exit at the hands of Magesi FC. The day was packed with action, delivering a total of 25 goals across six matches on Saturday.

Kaizer Chiefs delivered a comprehensive 4-0 victory over SuperSport United at Peter Mokaba Stadium, with goals from Gaston Sirino, Yusuf Maart, Ranga Chivaviro, and Ashley Du Preez securing their place in the next round.

The Amakhosi’s dominant display left Matsatsantsa with no response, as Chiefs cruised to a convincing win in one of the day’s late fixtures.

Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns showcased their superiority with a resounding 5-0 triumph against Golden Arrows at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Goals from Thapelo Morena, Iqraam Rayners, Mothobi Mvala, Peter Shalulile, and Kutlwano Letlhaku saw the reigning DStv Premiership champions comfortably dispatch Abafana Bes’thende, leaving little doubt about their intent to go far in the competition.

Elsewhere, Cape Town City enjoyed a 3-0 win over Royal AM at Athlone Stadium.

Amadou Soukouna, Jaedin Rhodes, and Jody Ah Shene all found the net to help their side progress.

The victory came as a routine affair for Cape Town City, who looked in control throughout.

The most shocking result of the day came when tournament debutants Magesi FC stunned Orlando Pirates with a 3-2 away win. Magesi, also known as Dikwena Tsa Meetse, raced to a 3-0 lead before half-time thanks to goals from Delano Abrahams, Edmore Chirambadare, and an own goal by Thabiso Sesane.

Despite a late rally from the Buccaneers, with Kabelo Dlamini and Evidence Makgopa pulling goals back, it was too little too late for the Soweto giants, marking a shock early exit for the former champions.

Earlier in the day, Marumo Gallants secured a dramatic 3-2 win over Polokwane City in a thrilling encounter at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Bahlabane Ba Ntwa came from behind twice, with goals from Siyabulela Shai, Monde Mphambaniso, and Edgar Manaka ensuring their progression to the next round in a hard-fought contest.

On Friday, the Carling Knockout opener saw defending champions Stellenbosch FC claim a 2-1 victory over AmaZulu FC after extra time.

Goals from Devon Titus and Andre de Jong sealed the win, allowing Stellenbosch to begin their title defense on a positive note.

The Round of 16 will conclude on Sunday, October 20, with two remaining fixtures: TS Galaxy will take on Chippa United, while Richards Bay will face Sekhukhune United.
