Manchester United has swiftly intervened to protect their 17-year-old forward, Chido Obi, from a surge of fake social media accounts that have emerged following his impressive performances this season.
The club has taken action to remove these fraudulent profiles across various platforms to prevent misinformation and safeguard both the player and supporters. This proactive measure aligns with United’s routine practice of supporting their emerging talents in navigating the digital landscape.
Since joining United from Arsenal in October 2024, Obi has made three senior appearances, debuting as a late substitute in a league match against Tottenham Hotspur on February 16, 2025.
His impact extends to the youth level, where he has been a standout performer for the under-18 team. Notably, Obi set an under-18 Premier League record by netting 37 goals in 26 games, including a hat-trick against Chelsea in the FA Youth Cup.
Additionally, he scored a first-half hat-trick in a 6-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on his first start for United’s U18s.
Despite his rapid ascent, Obi remains ineligible for Manchester United’s Europa League campaign due to UEFA regulations requiring a two-year tenure at the club for eligibility.
