Chido Obi: Man Utds DenmarkNigeria forward linked with 1.FC Koln move

Teenage centre-forward Chido Obi of Manchester United is being linked with a switch to Bundesliga side 1.FC Koln, with reports suggesting the Denmark-Nigeria striker has a 50% chance of leaving Old Trafford this summer.

Obi, 18, is currently valued at 5.00m (4.2m) and has seen that valuation hold steady across recent updates since breaking through from Manchester Uniteds under-18s into the senior squad. The Glostrup-born attacker, who stands at 1.88m and is right-footed, wears the number 32 shirt at Old Trafford.

The talks come with uncertainty over his contractual status. No expiry date is listed on his current deal and his recent history includes a short spell as a free agent in 2024 after leaving Arsenals academy, before he joined Manchester Uniteds under-18s. That past free-agent episode has fuelled suggestions that, without clarity on his terms, a departure from United could again see him move for minimal compensation or potentially run down his agreement.

Kolns interest follows a rapid rise that has taken Obi from FC Copenhagens youth ranks to Arsenals youth and under-18 sides, then briefly without a club in July 2024, before signing for Manchester Uniteds under-18s in October 2024. He was officially promoted to Uniteds first team on 1 July 2025.

Obi has been monitored closely in Uniteds recent fixtures, including a late-season outing on 3 May 2026 in a 2-1 win over Bournemouth at Old Trafford, where he featured as a substitute centre-forward and impressed with his physical presence in the closing stages. Such performances have underlined why a mid-table Bundesliga club would view him as a long-term project rather than an immediate finished article.

With dual Denmark and Nigeria nationality and experience across academies in Denmark and England, a move to Germany would add another major league to his resume. If the mooted transfer to Koln materialises, it could be a pivotal step in converting promising youth pedigree and a solid 5.00m market valuation into a sustained top-flight career.
