Chicago Fire open to offers for South Africa defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi amid Napoli links
Chicago Fire are reportedly willing to consider offers for South African defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi should a suitable proposal arrive in the current transfer window.
The rock-solid defender has attracted growing interest following his impressive performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Italian giants SSC Napoli among the clubs linked with the talented defender.
Mbokazi’s representative, Basia Michaels, confirmed that the Major League Soccer outfit are open to discussions regarding the player’s future.
“Chicago Fire have come forward and we’ve had conversations. They are willing to sell Mbokazi and they’re not going to hold him back if a suitable offer arises,” Michaels told ESPN.
“They are very open to any conversations that need to be had. They have to realise fair value for their investment.”
The comments suggest the American club are prepared to support the defender’s next career step if the right opportunity emerges.
Chicago Fire head coach Gregg Berhalter also acknowledged the club’s position regarding potential interest in Mbokazi.
“Like all of our players, we would be open to discussing if we saw the move was a significant sporting opportunity for the player, and support the long-term vision of the club,” Berhalter said on ESPN.
Mbokazi’s performances on the international stage have significantly boosted his reputation, with the defender emerging as one of South Africa’s standout performers during the World Cup campaign.
Interest from clubs across Europe continues to grow as scouts closely monitor the Bafana Bafana star, whose composure, defensive awareness and physical presence have drawn widespread praise.
