Chemsdine Talbi’s fitness raises questions ahead of Morocco debut

Chemsdine Talbi explains decision to represent Morocco over Belgium

Chemsdine Talbi’s anticipated debut for Morocco has been overshadowed by uncertainty after the young winger was absent from Club Brugge’s squad over the weekend.

The 19-year-old, who recently committed his international future to Morocco after representing Belgium at youth level, was left out of the matchday squad for Brugge’s 4-2 victory over Charleroi on Sunday.

His absence immediately raised concerns, as he is expected to join the Atlas Lions for his first senior call-up.

Injury Concerns Emerge

While no official statement has been made regarding his withdrawal from the national team, Belgian media outlets, including Nieuwsblad, have reported that Talbi is dealing with an adductor strain.

The injury is believed to have required rest, which explains his absence from the weekend fixture. However, at this stage, it is not expected to rule him out of Morocco’s squad entirely.

Club Brugge head coach Nicky Hayen addressed the situation before the Charleroi match, explaining that the decision to exclude Talbi was precautionary.

“We preferred to spare him. No final decision has been made regarding his participation with Morocco. We are in contact with their medical staff,” Hayen stated.

His comments suggest that while the club is exercising caution, there is no definitive indication that Talbi will miss his first national team camp.

Optimism for International Duty

Despite the uncertainty, Talbi remains on track to join the Moroccan squad this week, with the national team’s medical staff set to assess his condition upon arrival.

Club Brugge, currently preparing for the upcoming Champions Play-offs, appears to have taken a precautionary approach to his fitness rather than ruling him out completely.

Adding to the optimism, Talbi posted an Instagram story over the weekend, showcasing a fresh haircut—an update that some interpreted as a sign of readiness for his first call-up.

Barring any last-minute setbacks, the promising winger is expected to report to the Moroccan camp as planned, where he could soon make his debut in the red and green jersey.
