Chelsea’s rising star Carney Chukwuemeka has lauded the mentorship of seasoned teammate Raheem Sterling amidst recent scrutiny faced by the English winger from the club’s supporters.
Despite facing criticism in recent days, Sterling’s influence and leadership qualities have not gone unnoticed within the Chelsea camp, particularly by young talents like Chukwuemeka.
The midfielder, who shared the pitch with Sterling during their FA Cup quarter-final victory over Leicester City, emphasized the veteran’s pivotal role both on and off the field.
Speaking to club media, Chukwuemeka highlighted Sterling’s impact, stating: “Everyone is human and sometimes you can’t control your emotions, but we need to trust the process as a team, fans included.”
Acknowledging Sterling’s mentorship, Chukwuemeka added: “For us young players, especially me, Noni (Madueke) and Cole, Raheem has helped a lot.
He is always on us, showing us what we can do better, and what we can improve on outside of football as well as in football. He’s like a big brother to me.”
Despite recent criticism, Chukwuemeka emphasized Sterling’s significant contributions to the team, highlighting his experience and on-field prowess.
“He is an experienced player and he’s had an amazing career. We know what a great player he is. He’s contributed to goals and assists and has won so many penalties for the team this season.”
Addressing Sterling’s recent challenges, Chukwuemeka stressed the importance of unwavering support, stating: “But he is human and players miss chances and have an off day. It happens. But we stay behind him – and he still got the assist for Cole’s goal.”
Chukwuemeka’s remarks underscore the respect and admiration Sterling commands within the Chelsea squad, emphasizing the veteran’s invaluable mentorship and continued impact despite recent setbacks.
