Mathis Eboue has described his decision to begin his professional journey at Chelsea as a defining step in his early career, insisting the club’s competitive environment offers the ideal platform for his development.
The teenage attacking midfielder recently signed his first professional contract, marking a significant milestone for the highly rated youngster who arrived from Charlton Athletic.
Eboue believes the move has already elevated his standards both on and off the pitch. The son of former Arsenal defender Emmanuel Eboue, the youngster acknowledged that daily exposure to elite-level coaching and training alongside senior players has accelerated his growth.
He highlighted the club’s demanding atmosphere and high performance expectations as major factors shaping his progress, adding that the strong camaraderie within the squad has made his transition seamless.
Comfortable operating across attacking midfield and wide areas, Eboue has built a reputation for his fearless approach in one-on-one situations.
He prides himself on his ability to drive directly at defenders, using speed and sharp footwork to unlock defences and create opportunities in the final third.
His attacking instincts, combined with a willingness to take risks, have been key elements of his playing identity as he continues to adapt to professional football.
The youngster also stressed the importance of maintaining confidence on the ball and constantly seeking ways to influence matches.
On what he has enjoyed about Chelsea since his past move from Charlton Athletic, Eboue said: “It might sound a bit cliche, but the opportunities. Being at a club like Chelsea gives you chances to develop and push yourself every single day.
“The environment is top. I’ve already had the opportunity to train with first-team players, which is massive for me. The intensity, the quality, the standards – it all pushes you to improve. And the boys here are great as well.
“It’s a strong group and that makes coming in every day enjoyable.”
He also said, “I would say one of my biggest strengths is being direct in one-v-one situations. I love getting the ball out wide and taking defenders on. That’s a big part of my game – being quick, positive and always looking to make something happen. Whether it’s creating a chance for a team-mate or getting a shot off myself, I always want to impact the game in the final third.
“My pace definitely helps me. I like to drive into space, attack defenders and force them into difficult situations. If I see an opportunity to push forward, I’ll take it. I think that directness and confidence on the ball is something that really stands out in my game.”
