Chelsea have firmly dismissed speculation surrounding Christopher Nkunku’s future, making it clear the forward is not for sale despite reports of his dissatisfaction.
Nkunku, who joined Chelsea in July 2023 on a six-year deal for a reported £52 million, made an immediate impact by scoring a decisive penalty in his debut against Newcastle United during an EFL Cup quarter-final last December. However, the former RB Leipzig star has struggled to secure a starting role under manager Enzo Maresca this season.
Primarily utilized in Chelsea’s second-string side for cup and Conference League fixtures, Nkunku is reportedly frustrated with his lack of involvement in high-stakes matches. Speculation about a potential move away from Stamford Bridge has grown, but coach Enzo Maresca refuted the claims emphatically ahead of Chelsea’s Conference League victory over Heidenheim.
“Not at all. I spoke with Christo days ago, he did not say he is not happy,” he said.
“Absolutely [he is not for sale], yes. The problem with Christo, not the problem but the same issue we have mentioned many times; if you play with Cole [Palmer], Joao [Felix], Christo, Jadon [Sancho] or Noni [Madueke] – who is defending? Their skill is not defending. The last game, we tried with Joao and Cole together.”
Chelsea’s stance is clear: Nkunku remains a vital part of their plans, even amid growing tension.
