Chelsea have dismissed head coach Liam Rosenior after just 106 days in charge, following a sharp downturn in form that has jeopardised the club’s ambitions in the closing stretch of the campaign.

Rosenior, who arrived from Strasbourg on a long-term deal backed by the club’s ownership under Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, struggled to impose consistency on a side that has faltered at a decisive point in the season.

His tenure yielded 11 wins in 23 matches across all competitions, but a damaging sequence of results ultimately proved decisive.

The final blow came in a 3-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion, a result that extended Chelsea’s alarming league run to five consecutive defeats without scoring.

It marks the club’s longest scoreless streak in the top flight for well over a century, underlining the scale of the collapse. The performance drew strong reactions from travelling supporters, with Rosenior himself conceding it was “indefensible” and “unacceptable.”

Chelsea’s slide to seventh in the table has left them seven points adrift of Liverpool in the race for Champions League qualification, intensifying pressure on the club hierarchy to act swiftly.

In a statement, Chelsea acknowledged Rosenior’s professionalism but admitted that recent performances had “fallen below the necessary standards,” confirming that the decision was made with the club’s broader objectives in mind.

Attention has already turned to potential successors, with Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva and Edin Terzic among the names under consideration. Each represents a distinct profile as Chelsea weigh both immediate impact and long-term direction.

For now, assistant coach Calum McFarlane steps into the role on an interim basis, tasked with steadying the squad during a critical period.

His immediate focus will be on Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United at Wembley, a fixture that could yet salvage silverware from an otherwise turbulent season.

With the club pledging a period of reflection before appointing a permanent manager, the coming weeks are likely to define not only Chelsea’s campaign, but also the direction of their evolving project.
