Chelsea have taken a sharp turn in their plans for Christopher Nkunku, reportedly willing to offload the French attacker for nearly half of what they paid just two seasons ago.
After signing Nkunku for £52 million from RB Leipzig, hopes were high at Stamford Bridge, especially as he arrived as the Bundesliga’s top scorer.
But a difficult spell at the London club, plagued by two major injuries, has seen Nkunku fall down the pecking order. Once seen as a major part of Chelsea’s attacking future, he’s now become a fringe figure.
Last summer, Chelsea weren’t even open to £65–70 million offers, including serious interest from Bayern Munich. Now, the Blues have drastically lowered their valuation, with The Mirror reporting that a bid in the region of £35 million could be enough to sanction his exit.
Manchester United are believed to be monitoring the situation closely as they look to bolster their forward options. If they act quickly, they could land a proven talent at a reduced fee, a rare opportunity in a high-spending market.
