Premier League outfit Chelsea have expressed interest in French international of Cameroonian descent Hugo Ekitike ahead of the summer transfer window.
The 22-year-old has become a transfer target for several top clubs in Europe due to his outstanding performance for Frankfurt this season.
Ekitike has rediscovered his form at Frankfurt following a difficult spell with Paris Saint Germain. He joined the Bundesliga club, initially on loan before making the move permanent last summer for just over €16m.
In his first full season, the French-Cameroonian striker has excelled, scoring 22 goals and provided 12 assists in 48 appearances across competitions.
Chelsea are seeking to strengthen their squad for the new campaign, and Ekitike, who endured an amazing season with Frankfurt has emerged as a target.
The Blues’ interest in Ekitike is growing and are expected to battle it out with fellow Premier League team, Liverpool and Newcastle United for his services.
The two-time Champions League winners are now “extensively” discussing a move for Ekitiké. Eintracht Frankfurt’s substantial €100m price tag is a potential stumbling block in any move, although Chelsea’s qualification for the Champions League gives them a certain level of wiggle room in the upcoming transfer window.
