Chelsea have pulled the plug on Nicolas Jackson’s proposed loan switch to Bayern Munich following an injury to striker Liam Delap.
The Blues had agreed a record £13 million loan fee with the German champions, which included an option to make the deal permanent for £56.2m.
However, Saturday’s victory over Fulham changed the picture after Delap sustained a hamstring injury that head coach Enzo Maresca admitted “doesn’t look good” and could keep him sidelined for weeks.
Following discussions between Maresca and the club’s football leadership, Chelsea informed Bayern that they could no longer proceed with the deal.
Jackson, who had already been training with the first team amid uncertainty over his future, will now return to London and rejoin the senior squad after arriving in Munich on Saturday afternoon.
Maresca underlined the importance of keeping the Senegal international.
“When you have two strikers, it’s enough. When one is injured, it probably is not enough,” the Italian side after the game.
Jackson, 24, remains tied to Stamford Bridge until 2033 after signing a contract extension last September.
