Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is reportedly preparing a world-record bid to sign Barcelona’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal.
The 17-year-old winger, who has Moroccan and Equatorial Guinean heritage, is currently under contract with the Spanish giants until 2026, but negotiations over a long-term extension have yet to be finalized.
Despite Yamal’s public assurances that reaching an agreement with Barcelona is a mere formality, Chelsea are monitoring the situation closely.
According to Spanish journalist Eduardo Inda, speaking on El Chiringuito, Boehly is prepared to offer an astonishing €300 million to bring the young star to Stamford Bridge this summer.
“There is a European club with unlimited financial resources. Todd Boehly took over Chelsea and now has a particular obsession—he wants Lamine Yamal. He is willing to offer €300 million for him,” Inda revealed.
Barcelona and Yamal reportedly have a verbal agreement to extend his contract until 2030, but with no official deal signed, Boehly sees a potential opportunity.
Chelsea’s interest in Yamal comes amid the club’s continued strategy of investing in young talent, having previously spent heavily on promising players in recent transfer windows.
Barcelona, however, remain determined to keep hold of Yamal, who has been a key player under manager Hansi Flick.
His exceptional dribbling, vision, and goal-scoring ability have made him one of the most exciting young talents in world football.
If Chelsea were to submit a formal €300 million bid, it would surpass the current world transfer record of €222 million, which Paris Saint-Germain paid for Neymar in 2017.
However, convincing Barcelona to sell one of their brightest prospects could prove to be a major challenge.
For now, the Catalan club remains confident that Yamal will commit his future to them, but until a contract is officially signed, Chelsea may continue to explore the possibility of an audacious move.
