Charles Ondo switches MLS Next Pro for Hdd in Norwegian league move

Equatorial Guinea and Spain defender Charles Ondo has joined Norwegian club Hdd from Portland 2, signing a contract that runs until 31 July 2028.

The 22-year-old centre-back moves to Hdd’s OBOS-ligaen squad after spending the 2026 season with Portland 2 in MLS Next Pro. Ondo made 20 appearances for the Portland reserve side, starting 79% of the matches in which he featured, and scored twice.

Ondo did not make a senior MLS appearance during his time in the United States, but established himself as a regular for Portland 2. He played 1,662 minutes in the competition and completed the campaign with two goals.

The move takes Ondo into a new country and league after a period in which his career had included spells in England and Ireland. He joined Portland 2 from Welling United on 1 April 2025, having arrived at Welling from Ebbsfleet United on a free transfer in January of that year.

Before his time with Portland 2, Ondo had been involved with Ebbsfleet’s first team and spent part of the 2024-25 season on loan at Hemel. He joined Ebbsfleet from Huddersfield Town Under-21s in August 2024 after leaving the club as a free agent.

His early senior experience also included a loan spell at Waterford, where he spent part of the 2022-23 campaign after progressing through Huddersfield’s youth setup. He had joined Huddersfield Town Under-21s from the club’s Under-19 side in 2022, following his time with Huddersfield’s Under-17s.

Born in Madrid on 22 October 2003, Ondo stands at 1.90m and is left-footed. His dual Equatorial Guinea and Spain nationality gives further context to a career that has taken him from youth football in England to senior opportunities in Ireland, the United States and now Norway.

Ondo’s current market value is listed at €75,000, while his highest recorded value has been €150,000. His arrival gives Hdd a centre-back with recent regular playing experience and a contract lasting through the end of July 2028.

The completed move was registered on 2 September 2026, with Ondo leaving Portland 2 to join Hdd.
