The 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) reaches its semi-final stage with two decisive fixtures that will determine the finalists of this year’s competition.

Madagascar meet Sudan on Tuesday at 14:30 GMT at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, while later in the day Morocco face Senegal at 17:30 GMT at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala.

For the opening semi-final between Madagascar and Sudan, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed Tunisian referee Mehrez Melki as the match official.

He will be supported on the touchlines by Guylain Bongele Ngila and Joel Wonka Wonka Doe, with Mahmoud Ahmed Nagy Mosa named as the fourth official.

The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) role will be handled by Dahane Beida, assisted by Mahmoud Ashor and Carine Atezambong Fomo.

The line-up forms an experienced officiating team, tasked with maintaining order in a contest expected to be both intense and finely balanced.

The second semi-final, pitting Morocco against Senegal, will be overseen by South African referee Jelly Alfred Chavani. His assistants will be Dieudonne Mutuyimana and Robleh Dirir Eleyeh Robleh, while Brighton Chimene has been appointed as fourth official.

Kegakologetswe Lucky will serve as the reserve assistant referee. For VAR duties, Ghana’s Daniel Nii Ayi Laryea will take charge, with Akhona Zennith Makalima and Stephen Eleazar Onyango Yiembe providing support.

With two heavyweights of African football meeting, CAF has ensured a strong officiating presence to handle what promises to be a highly competitive encounter.

The appointments reflect CAF’s emphasis on both balance and quality in match management at this crucial stage of the tournament. With a place in the CHAN 2024 final at stake, discipline and composure on the part of the players will be essential, while the refereeing teams carry the responsibility of guaranteeing fairness and maintaining the spirit of the game.
