Christopher Katongo Guides Zambia to CHAN 2016 Quarter-Finals
Christopher Katongo once again demonstrated his enduring quality as he scored the decisive goal that secured Zambia’s 1-0 win over Uganda on Saturday, booking their place in the quarter-finals of the 2016 African Nations Championship.
At 33, the Zambian captain showed he remains a key figure for the national team. After the match, Katongo expressed his gratitude to both his coach and the Zambian Football Association for their continued faith.
“I dedicate my goal to my coach. He believed in me after a year of absence from the national team,” he said. “I dedicate the three points to my federation because they trusted me. They knew I was still capable of bringing something to the team. It’s a great moment of happiness.”
Katongo, who helped Zambia lift the African Cup of Nations in 2012 in Equatorial Guinea, played a pivotal role in guiding the Chipolopolo through the group stage. His strike not only secured victory but also underlined his leadership and enduring impact on the team.
With the quarter-finals now confirmed, Zambia can focus on the knockout stage, relying on Katongo’s experience and the squad’s disciplined performances to mount a strong challenge in the latter stages of the tournament.
