Uganda’s national team, the Cranes, secured their place in the final tournament by defeating Tanzania 3-1. With a 1-0 victory in the first leg in Kampala, Uganda’s 3-1 win in the second leg confirmed their dominance. Frank Kalanda’s double and a penalty by Brian Majwega contributed to the victory, despite Amri Kiemba’s goal for Tanzania.
Ethiopia, on the other hand, had a more dramatic route to qualification. After winning the first leg 1-0, the Antelopes Walya lost by the same score in Kigali against Rwanda. However, Ethiopia secured their ticket to the final phase by winning the penalty shootout 6-5.
Meanwhile, in other first-leg matches over the weekend, Botswana and Zambia played to a 1-1 draw. The return match is scheduled for August 3, and the winner will contribute to the growing list of teams qualifying for the CHAN 2014 in South Africa.
