CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: THE AFRICANS OF THE 2ND DAY

Emenike

Emmanuel Emenike (Spartak Moscow): The Nigerian striker stood out as a top performer during the second day of the Champions League, scoring a double for Spartak Moscow in their match against Celtic Glasgow. Despite his impressive performance, Spartak Moscow suffered a 2-3 defeat.

Gervinho (Arsenal): The Ivorian forward continues to make an impact in the Champions League. Gervinho scored the first goal for Arsenal in their victory over Olympiacos and also provided an assist for Podolski’s goal. This comes as his second achievement in the tournament after scoring against Montpellier.

Ideye Brown and Taye Taiwo (Dynamo Kiev): The Nigerian duo played a significant role in Dynamo Kiev’s 2-0 victory against Dinamo Zagreb. Taiwo, the defender, contributed to the opening score with a cross deflected by a Croatian defender, while Brown’s attacking efforts added to the team’s success.

Karim Aît Fana and Souleymane Camara (Montpellier): Both players scored their first Champions League goals, helping Montpellier secure their first point in the tournament with a 2-2 draw against Schalke 04.

Flops:

Emmanuel Eboué and Nordin Amrabat (Galatasaray): The Ivorian and Moroccan players faced their second defeat in as many matches as Galatasaray lost to Portuguese side Braga (0-2). Eboué and Amrabat face the challenge of lifting their club in the standings.

Yaya Touré (Manchester City): Despite being effective in domestic competitions, the Ivorian midfielder, along with Manchester City, struggled in the Champions League. They faced a tough match against Dortmund, managing to secure a draw with a late penalty from Balotelli in the 90th minute (1-1).

Aurélien Chedjou (Lille): The Cameroonian defender and his Lille teammates faced difficulties in the Champions League, suffering a 0-2 defeat against Valencia after their first home defeat against Borisov.
