Reuben Ogbonnaya Confident of Kano Pillars’ Comeback Against Moghreb Tetouan
Despite a challenging first leg in the Champions League round of 32, where Kano Pillars were defeated by Moghreb Tetouan, central defender Reuben Ogbonnaya remains hopeful of a turnaround in the return leg. The Nigerian club faces a tough task, but Ogbonnaya firmly believes they can still progress to the next round.
“We made some mistakes in the first leg and we have to correct them to progress,” Ogbonnaya told SuperSport.com. Reflecting on the first leg in Tetouan, he acknowledged the team’s poor first-half performance but praised their improved display after the break. “The first half was bad for us, but we played better in the second half and had some serious scoring chances,” he said. “In any case, we have to be more efficient and improve defensively in the second leg.”
Kano Pillars’ path to qualification now seems difficult but not impossible. To secure automatic progression, they must score five goals without conceding. Alternatively, if they score four goals, they will force a penalty shootout.
The return leg, which will take place in Kano on April 4 or 5, 2015, will be a defining moment for the Nigerian club. Ogbonnaya and his teammates are determined to make the most of their chances and fight for a place in the next round.
