Galatasaray and Chelsea played to a draw yesterday in the round of 16 first leg of the Champions League (1-1). Chelsea took an early lead with a goal from Fernando Torres in the 4th minute, but despite their dominance, they couldn’t secure the win, conceding an equalizer to Chedjou in the 65th minute.
For Didier Drogba, facing his former teammates was a special moment. Although he didn’t make a decisive impact on the game, he played a significant role in Galatasaray’s offensive efforts. Speaking after the match, Drogba reflected, “It was a special match to play against my teammates. It was a good match, a good result. Chelsea are a better team on paper, but we have shown that we can give them problems. We will now go to Stamford Bridge and hope to get a result. I had to keep my emotions aside. I wish I had scored, but there is another match to come. It will be difficult to go to Chelsea, but it is possible to qualify. They are good on the counter-attack and we were naive. 1-1 is not a bad result for us.”
Despite Galatasaray’s late dominance, Chelsea still find themselves in a favorable position for the return leg on March 18 at Stamford Bridge.
