Chafik Abbas: French-Moroccan winger joins Heracles Almelo from Cannes on permanent deal

French-Moroccan winger Chafik Abbas has joined Dutch side Heracles Almelo from Cannes, signing a contract with the Keuken Kampioen Divisie club until June 2028. The 28-year-old left-sided forward, who operates predominantly on the right wing, makes the move after two seasons in France’s lower leagues.

Abbas switches to Heracles after most recently featuring in Ligue 3 with Cannes, having arrived there from GOAL FC on a free transfer in 2024. His performances in the French pyramid, where he produced consistent attacking returns across National 1 and National 2, have earned him a first move into Dutch football.

Born in Cholet and standing at 1.74m, Abbas has built his career across a series of French clubs after progressing from the youth ranks at Niort. Spells with SO Cholet, US Saint-Malo, EA Guingamp’s reserve side, USSA Vertou, GOAL FC and Cannes have given him extensive experience in the French game and regular minutes at senior level.

A left-footed attacker, Abbas has shown an eye for goal and creativity in the final third, with notable scoring runs in National 2 and a strong record in the Coupe de France, where he has combined goals and assists over multiple campaigns. That output has helped establish him as a reliable wide option capable of contributing across different competitions.

Abbas now begins a new chapter in the Netherlands, with his deal tying him to Heracles Almelo through the 2027-28 season.
