Cesc Fabregas urges Como to sign Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah in €30m talks
Chelsea are in talks with Como over a potential €30m transfer for Trevoh Chalobah, with Como head coach Cesc Fabregas personally pushing to bring the defender to Italy.
The London club are continuing to reshape their squad as the transfer window approaches its close and are looking to reduce the size of their playing staff. Chelsea are attempting to maintain their sporting balance while also working within their financial constraints, meaning several departures remain under consideration before the market shuts at Stamford Bridge.
Chalobah is one of the players who could leave. The 27-year-old central defender came through Chelsea’s academy and has attracted the backing of Fabregas, the former Chelsea midfielder who now leads Como.
Fabregas is understood to value Chalobah’s Premier League experience and his ability to operate in more than one defensive role. Those qualities are seen as important to the Italian club’s sporting plans, with the Como manager taking a direct interest in the proposed move.
According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, negotiations between Chelsea and Como are continuing. The clubs are discussing a deal worth about €30m, although they have yet to settle the precise structure of the transfer.
Chalobah has already agreed personal terms with Como. The remaining obstacle is an agreement between the two clubs over the payment arrangements, with the final details still to be resolved before the beginning of the new season.
The defender is valued at €40m and remains under contract with Chelsea until 2028. He was born in Freetown and currently earns €3,045,858 per year at the English club, equivalent to 1,979,807,700 FCFA.
Chelsea’s efforts to reduce their squad have made Chalobah’s future a matter of continued discussion during the closing stages of the transfer window. Como’s interest has now developed into active negotiations, but the move cannot be completed until the two sides reach a definitive agreement on the financial terms and payment schedule.
