Como head coach Cesc Fabregas has expressed his frustration with his team following their 1-1 draw against Empoli, singling out only Assane Diao for praise.
Ivory Coast international Christian Kouamé scored for Empoli on Saturday night, securing a crucial point in Serie A.
However, the result left Fabregas visibly disappointed, with the Spanish coach openly criticising his players for their lacklustre performance.
“I’m not happy, and I can say that I didn’t like my team’s performance. Maybe it was my fault, but I think the only positive thing today was the point. The rest was not good. I tell the players that they have to get back on their feet. Some here think they play for Bayern Munich,” Fabregas said in his post-match press conference.
The former Barcelona and Arsenal midfielder, however, did highlight one bright spot in the match—Diao’s efforts on the pitch.
“The only player I liked today was Assane Diao, even though he only returned from international duty on Thursday. He was the only one who tried something. I think we can do much better.”
Fabregas further lamented his team’s lack of sharpness in front of goal, insisting that significant improvement is needed.
“We lacked determination today. A team that doesn’t score despite all its work… Frankly, we have to do better,” he concluded.
Como will now look to bounce back from the disappointing result as they continue their push in Serie A.
