Cercle Bruges are pushing to bring David Okereke back to Belgium, with the Nigerian forward expected to rejoin the club before the close of the summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old, currently at Serie B side Cremonese, is believed to be close to finalising a deal that would see him return to the Belgian Pro League, just two years after leaving Cercle for Italy.

With the European transfer window set to shut on 31 August, negotiations are understood to have intensified in recent days as clubs scramble to complete their final business.

Okereke joined Cremonese in 2022 for a reported €2.5m fee following his initial spell in Bruges.

While his time in Serie A and subsequently Serie B has produced flashes of quality, the striker has struggled for consistency in Italy’s demanding leagues.

A return to Belgium, where he previously impressed with his work rate and attacking instincts, is seen as an opportunity to reignite his career.

During his first stint with Cercle Bruges, Okereke earned a reputation as a versatile and energetic forward, capable of playing across the front line.

His performances not only attracted attention in Belgium but also paved the way for his eventual move to Cremonese.

Now, with Cercle looking to strengthen their attacking options for the new campaign, the Nigerian appears set for a familiar reunion.

Cercle Bruges have been active in the market this summer as they seek to build a squad capable of competing at the top end of the Belgian league.

The addition of Okereke would provide both experience and depth, while also giving the club a player who already understands their style and expectations.

For Okereke, the move represents a chance to reset and find consistency in a league where he has previously thrived.

With the window days away from closing, both player and club will be keen to ensure the deal is finalised swiftly.

If completed, the transfer would mark a full-circle moment for the Nigerian forward, who looks set to pull on the Cercle Bruges shirt once more as he aims to rediscover his best form.
