Central African Republic’s Preparation for AFCON Qualifiers Hampered by Canceled Friendlies
The Central African Republic’s national football team has faced significant setbacks ahead of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Originally, the team was scheduled to play two friendly matches against Mauritania and Burundi during the recent FIFA dates to help prepare for the upcoming qualifiers. However, both matches were ultimately canceled.
The reason for the cancellation, according to Centrafriquefootball.cf, was the lack of funding from the Central African government to cover the team’s travel expenses. As a result, the Fauves du Bas Oubangui, led by coach Eloge Emza-Yamissi, will begin their qualifiers without the benefit of these crucial preparatory matches. This comes despite the team’s last training camp being held around eight months ago, leaving uncertainty over how effectively they will be able to compete.
