Ilaix Moriba will continue his career in La Liga after Celta Vigo confirmed the permanent signing of the Guinean midfielder from RB Leipzig.
The 21-year-old spent the past season on loan at the Spanish side, where his performances proved sufficient to persuade the club’s hierarchy to activate their option to buy.
Celta announced the transfer through an official statement on social media, confirming that Moriba has signed a long-term contract running until 2029.
Moriba’s return to Spain marks the end of his stint in the Bundesliga, where he struggled to find consistent playing time at Leipzig.
His move to Celta offered a fresh opportunity, and the midfielder gradually established himself as a key component in the team’s midfield setup.
As part of the agreement, FC Barcelona—where Moriba spent his formative years—will benefit financially from the transaction.
The Catalan giants are set to receive €600,000, equivalent to 10% of the final transfer fee, in accordance with a sell-on clause included in his original departure to Leipzig.
The transfer brings a measure of stability to Moriba’s career after a period of movement between clubs.
Following his breakthrough at Barcelona, the midfielder joined Leipzig in 2021 but was soon loaned out due to limited opportunities in Germany.
His time at Celta has offered more regular minutes and a platform to develop further.
Moriba’s athleticism, technical ability, and versatility have made him a valuable asset in Celta’s midfield.
His influence grew steadily over the past campaign, helping the club navigate a challenging season and contributing in both defensive and attacking phases.
For Celta Vigo, securing Moriba on a permanent basis aligns with the club’s strategy of investing in young talent with significant upside.
The long-term deal indicates confidence in his potential and signals that he will form a key part of the squad’s core in the coming years.
The Guinean international, who represents his country at senior level, will now look to build on his solid foundation in Galicia and further cement his place in the top tier of Spanish football.
With the deal now official, Celta Vigo and Moriba can turn their focus to pre-season preparations ahead of the 2025–26 campaign.
