Cédric Bakambu, the Congolese international striker for Real Betis, has revealed his pick for the 2024 African Player of the Year award, stating that Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman deserves the prestigious honor. Speaking in an interview with Sporty TV, Bakambu highlighted Lookman’s exceptional performances throughout the year, particularly his remarkable contribution in the Europa League final.
“Ademola Lookman was brilliant throughout 2024, notably with his historic hat-trick in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen,” Bakambu remarked.
The Atalanta Bergamasca striker’s impressive performances have certainly made him a standout candidate for the award, which will be announced at the upcoming CAF Awards in December.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has already released its shortlist of five nominees for the 2024 African Player of the Year award.
In addition to Lookman, the other contenders include Moroccan Achraf Hakimi, Guinean Serhou Guirassy, Ivorian Simon Adingra, and South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams.
The winner will be unveiled on December 16 during the prestigious CAF Awards ceremony, which is set to take place at the Palais des Congrès in Marrakech, Morocco.
