Castello Lukeba suffers muscle setback

RB Leipzig have confirmed that French centre-back Castello Lukeba has picked up a muscle injury, dealing the Bundesliga side a blow at a key stage of the season.

The problem emerged during Leipzig’s 2-1 league win over Werder Bremen on Saturday, when the 23-year-old was forced to come off.

Club doctors have diagnosed an adductor muscle injury, and medical staff will now monitor his progress over the coming days and weeks. For now, the club has not given a precise timeline, with Lukeba’s return dependent on how quickly his body responds to treatment and rehabilitation.

Given the nature of the injury and the short turnaround, Lukeba is not expected to be available for Leipzig’s upcoming clash with Borussia Mönchengladbach on April 11. His absence would be a significant concern for a side fighting to secure its targets in the league run-in.

There has also been ongoing speculation that Lukeba could leave Leipzig in the summer, adding extra uncertainty around his situation. The club and its supporters will now be hoping his recovery goes smoothly so he can get back on the pitch and, potentially, make a strong impression before any future decision on his career is made.
