Wydad Casablanca will face their fierce rivals, Raja Casablanca, in the highly anticipated “Casablanca derby” today in the Round of 26 games of the Moroccan topflight at Stade Mohammed V. The match is set to kick off at 19:00 GMT.
Under the guidance of South African coach Rulani Mokwena, Wydad aims to break a disappointing trend in recent meetings between the two teams.
Their last victory over Raja dates back to October 23, 2022, when they triumphed 2-1 in the sixth round of the league. Since then, Wydad has struggled to secure another win, as Raja has dominated with three consecutive victories and two draws in their past five encounters.
This makes today’s derby especially critical for Wydad, as they not only seek to reclaim pride against their rivals but also aim to close the gap on second place in the league standings, especially after their disappointing exit from the Throne Cup at the hands of Moghreb Tétouan.
Mokwena, who is under considerable pressure due to the team’s recent form, has assured the club’s management that he will secure victories in the remaining five league matches, including the derby against Raja and the upcoming FAR Rabat Clásico, as part of a push to end the season on a high note.
Currently, Wydad sits in third place in the Moroccan league with 43 points, while Raja is in eighth place with 37 points.
