Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal is under UEFA investigation following a half-time altercation with Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka during their Champions League quarter-final second leg at the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday.
Saka, who has Nigerian heritage, was involved in a heated exchange with Carvajal near the tunnel as the teams left the pitch at half-time.
The Spaniard appeared to confront Saka, attempting to grab him before officials and teammates intervened to diffuse the situation.
UEFA’s disciplinary panel is reviewing the incident, and Carvajal could face a suspension if found guilty of misconduct. The defender was not part of the matchday squad due to injury but was present at the stadium.
Arsenal secured a 2-1 victory on the night, completing a 5-1 aggregate win to advance to the semi-finals, where they will face Paris Saint-Germain.
Saka played a pivotal role in the triumph, scoring the opening goal in the second leg after earlier missing a penalty.
This is not the first time Carvajal has faced disciplinary action from UEFA.
In 2017, he received a two-match ban for deliberately getting booked during a group stage match against APOEL Nicosia, aiming to serve a suspension in a less critical fixture.
Real Madrid’s elimination from the Champions League has intensified scrutiny on the club’s discipline and performance.
The Spanish giants managed only one goal over two legs against Arsenal, highlighting their struggles on the European stage this season.
UEFA is expected to announce its decision regarding Carvajal’s conduct in the coming days.
