Borussia Dortmund is gearing up to face FC Augsburg at home on the 25th matchday of the Bundesliga, aiming to bolster their pursuit of a top-four finish.
Currently positioned 10th in the league, Dortmund trails the fourth spot by six points.
In a recent press conference, coach Niko Kovac provided updates on the squad’s fitness. He confirmed that Daniel Svensson is sidelined due to a male-related issue and will be unavailable for an extended period. Additionally, Carney Chukwuemeka, who joined Dortmund on loan from Chelsea in February 2025, missed today’s training session. Kovac assured that the rest of the team remains well and healthy.
Chukwuemeka, a 21-year-old central midfielder, began his professional journey with Aston Villa, debuting in a Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur on May 19, 2021. He later transferred to Chelsea in August 2022. As of his loan move to Dortmund, Chukwuemeka’s market value is estimated at £15 million.
Dortmund’s upcoming match against Augsburg is pivotal as they strive to close the gap to the Champions League qualifying spots. The potential absence of Chukwuemeka adds to the team’s challenges, making squad depth and adaptability crucial in this critical phase of the season.
