Carney Chukwuemeka made a memorable first impression in the Bundesliga, coming off the bench for Borussia Dortmund in their dominant 6-0 victory over Union Berlin on Saturday.
The 20-year-old midfielder, who joined Dortmund from Chelsea, entered the match in the 70th minute and showcased his technical ability and quick decision-making. Despite still working his way back from injury, Chukwuemeka looked sharp and confident on the ball.
Dortmund head coach Niko Kovac was full of praise for the youngster’s performance. “Carney came in and was sensationally good,” Kovac told Ruhr News.
“We have seen what skills he has. How he takes the ball and with him, how he immediately turns into the direction of playing is unique. He has a very good acceleration and technology. The boy will enjoy us if he stays healthy,” the coach added.
Dortmund faces St. Pauli next Saturday, March 1. With Chukwuemeka making an instant impact, Kovac may be tempted to give him a bigger role in the coming games.
