The recent international break offered a chance to rebuild his strength, but head coach Niko Kovac isn’t rushing him back into the mix.
“Carney has huge potential. However, he hasn’t played much in recent weeks and months. He’s fit again, but not yet ready for 90 minutes,” Kovac stated in press conference.
With Dortmund set to take on Mainz this Sunday, March 30, Chukwuemeka’s chances of starting look slim. Fans might get a clearer picture of his progress before next week’s clash with Freiburg.
The Bundesliga side secured his services on loan from February 3, 2025, until the season’s end, with an option to buy. For now, patience remains the game plan.
