Carney Chukwuemeka’s loan spell at Borussia Dortmund has yet to take off, with the Chelsea midfielder still working his way back to full fitness.
Knee issues have disrupted his start, limiting him to just four minutes on the pitch since his arrival.
“After Carney arrived here, he had problems with his knee once or twice. Then he was there and then not,” coach Niko Kovač explained.
Despite the slow start, Kovač remains confident in Chukwuemeka’s ability but insists the 20-year-old must be fully fit before making a real impact.
“We know what he can do. But of course, we need a fully fit player that we say that he could theoretically play from the first minute.”
Until then, the young midfielder must prove himself in training and take his chances in brief appearances. Dortmund remains patient, trusting that Chukwuemeka will soon showcase the talent that made him a highly rated prospect at Chelsea.
