Cape Verdean defender Logan Costa attracts Premier League interest after breakout season with Villarreal

Logan Costa may be on the move again this summer, with the Villarreal centre-back emerging as a transfer target for several Premier League clubs following a strong debut campaign in Spain.

The 23-year-old defender, who represents Cape Verde at international level, joined Villarreal just last year but has wasted little time making his presence felt in La Liga.

Costa has clocked over 30 appearances in the league this season, anchoring the backline with consistency and composure while also contributing two goals.

His solid performances have not gone unnoticed beyond Spain. Sources cited by Spanish outlet Fichajes suggest that a number of English clubs are now monitoring the former Toulouse defender’s situation closely. Brighton & Hove Albion are reportedly among the sides expressing the strongest interest, though they are not alone in the race.

Additional Premier League teams, whose identities have not yet been disclosed, are said to be assessing the feasibility of a summer move.

Costa’s blend of physicality, aerial dominance, and tactical intelligence has made him a standout in Villarreal’s defensive ranks. Despite being relatively new to top-flight Spanish football, he has demonstrated the maturity and poise of a seasoned professional, often taking command of the backline in high-pressure situations.

His ability to read the game and intervene with timely tackles and clearances has drawn praise from analysts and supporters alike.

The interest from England marks a swift rise for the defender, who only recently made the leap from Ligue 1 to La Liga. Before arriving in Spain, Costa was a key figure at Toulouse, helping the French side to a stable position in the domestic league. His development in France laid the groundwork for his seamless transition to Spanish football, where his progress has continued at a rapid pace.

With the summer transfer window approaching, Villarreal may face a decision over whether to retain the promising centre-back or capitalise on the mounting interest from abroad.

The Yellow Submarine are no strangers to developing talent and selling at a premium, but Costa’s potential value to the squad—particularly given his age and trajectory—may persuade the club to resist offers unless a substantial bid is tabled.

For Costa, the prospect of playing in the Premier League represents both a new challenge and a potential leap forward in his career. The English top flight is widely regarded as one of the most competitive and demanding leagues in the world, and the defender’s robust style and adaptability suggest he could thrive in such an environment.

While no official offers have been confirmed at this stage, the next few weeks could be crucial in determining Costa’s future. Villarreal fans will be keen to see whether the club can hold onto a player who has quickly become a vital part of their squad, while Premier League suitors may soon test the Spanish side’s resolve.

For now, Costa remains focused on his current commitments, but the summer could bring a significant change in direction for the rising Cape Verdean star.
