Cape Verde inch closer to 2026 World Cup qualification with crucial home win against Cameroon

Cape Verde made a huge step towards qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday evening when they secured a narrow 1-0 victory against Cameroon.

In a game played at Estádio Nacional de Cabo Verde, both national teams set up strong, hoping to fight for a win to enhance their chances of booking a place at next year’s global showpiece.

Despite the top performances of both sides in the first half, neither side could find the back of the net and settled for a draw at the break.

In the second half, Cape Verde upped their game and managed to find the breakthrough in the 54th minute.

A strike from Dailon Rocha Livramento propelled the host to condemn the Indomitable Lions to a 1-0 defeat that could deny them qualification to next year’s World Cup.

The victory keeps Cape Verde at the top of the Group D standings with 19 points, four more than Cameroon in second, ahead of the final round of qualification games in October.
