Cape Derby headlines Motsepe Foundation Championship weekend

The Cape Derby between Hope FC and Cape Town City is the main attraction in the Motsepe Foundation Championship this weekend, with a first-versus-second meeting between Magesi FC and Highbury FC also on the schedule.

Saturday’s programme begins with six fixtures, including a meeting between struggling Pretoria University and ORBIT College. AmaTuks have won one and lost two of their three matches, leaving them 11th in the table.

ORBIT College, also known as the Mswenko Boyz, are still searching for their first victory. They have taken one point from their opening three games, drawing once and suffering two defeats.

Hungry Lions and The Bees will meet in Kimberly, with both teams looking to recover from difficult starts to the campaign.

Hungry Lions, known as Malapipes, were beaten 2-1 by Cape Town City at Athlone Stadium last weekend. The result left them 12th, with two points from three matches.

The Bees are the only team yet to pick up a point this season. They have lost all three of their games against Highbury FC, Magesi FC and Gomora United.

Magesi and Highbury contest top spot

Sunday’s leading fixture brings together two unbeaten sides when Magesi FC face Highbury FC at Nelson Mandela University Stadium.

Magesi FC, known as Dikwena Tsa Meetse, have won all three of their matches. They have scored five goals and conceded once.

Highbury FC, or Amajuba, are second with nine points from three games and have also conceded only once. They have scored four goals.

The weekend concludes with the Cape Derby at Athlone Stadium, where newly promoted Hope FC host Cape Town City.

Hope FC, known as The Immortals, have won two of their three matches and lost one. They are sixth in the standings.

Cape Town City have recorded one win, one draw and one defeat. Their four points place them seventh, setting up a closely matched contest in Cape Town.
