Bayern Munich have been dealt a significant injury setback, with Alphonso Davies ruled out for the remainder of the season and Dayot Upamecano sidelined for several weeks.
The two defenders sustained injuries while on international duty, leaving the Bundesliga giants short of key personnel at a critical stage of their campaign.
Davies Suffers Season-Ending Injury
Davies, who had been representing Canada during the international break, suffered a torn cruciate ligament in his right knee during his country’s victory over the United States in California.
The 24-year-old left-back is set to undergo surgery, effectively ruling him out for the rest of Bayern’s season.
His absence comes as the club continues to battle for the Bundesliga title and prepares for the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.
Upamecano Out for Several Weeks
Meanwhile, French centre-back Upamecano has also picked up an injury while on duty with France for the UEFA Nations League.
He has been diagnosed with loose joints in his left knee and is expected to be out for several weeks.
His injury further compounds Bayern’s defensive concerns as they approach a crucial phase in their season.
Bayern Confirm Injury Setbacks
In an official statement, Bayern Munich confirmed the severity of the injuries, saying: “FC Bayern will be without Alphonso Davies for an extended period after the international break.
Additionally, Dayot Upamecano will be sidelined for the coming weeks. Davies was diagnosed with a torn cruciate ligament in his right knee after returning from the Canadian national team and will undergo surgery today.
The 24-year-old will be out for several months. Upamecano, diagnosed with loose joints in his left knee, will also be unavailable for several weeks.”
Major Blow Ahead of Champions League Clash
The timing of these injuries could not be worse for Bayern, who are set to face Inter Milan in two weeks in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie.
With Davies and Upamecano both unavailable, manager vincent kompany will have to find alternative solutions in his defensive lineup as Bayern push for success on multiple fronts.
