AFCON U17: GHANA DISQUALIFIED OVER AGE CHEATING — GFA VOWS TO APPEAL
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed the disqualification of Ghana from the 2015 U17 Africa Cup of Nations set to take place in Niger, following an age fraud scandal.
The controversy centers around player Twum Isaac, who failed the MRI age test—a mandatory requirement to ensure players are under 17. After Ghana’s 2-1 win over Cameroon on September 15, Fecafoot (Cameroon FA) lodged a formal complaint, suspecting that seven Ghanaian players were overage.
CAF responded by requesting additional MRI testing on the accused players. Despite Ghana’s compliance, CAF’s independent counter-examination confirmed that Twum Isaac exceeded the age limit, leading to Ghana’s elimination from the tournament, with Cameroon taking their place.
In response, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has strongly rejected the decision and has already lodged an appeal with CAF.
The GFA now has 10 days to escalate the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in hopes of overturning the ruling.
This incident marks yet another chapter in African youth football’s long-standing battle against age fraud, raising concerns ahead of the continental showpiece in Niger.
