Baudouin Banza Mukalay Nsungu has officially declared that the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is a candidate to host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN). The announcement came shortly after the conclusion of the 2013 CAN, and several countries, including Algeria, expressed their interest in hosting the 2019 edition.
Mukalay Nsungu stated, “The DRC is a candidate for CAN 2019. I have submitted the file to Fecofa (Congolese Football Federation), which has already transmitted this file to CAF. We are waiting for the specifications, which we will fill calmly.”
The proposed locations for the competition would be primarily in the capital, Kinshasa, and in Lubumbashi in the south-east, with plans to include Matadi stadium in the west and Kisangani in the east. This demonstrates the intention to showcase various regions of the country during the tournament. The final decision on the host country for the 2019 CAN would be made by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) based on the submitted bids and evaluations.
